The Fourteenth International Conference on Sport & Society is brought together around a common interest in cultural, political, and economic relationships of sport to society. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. Our mission is to provide a safe, sustainable, and accessible way for us to come together and interact as a Research Network.

The theme of the 2023 Annual Congress for the ISSA takes this call to “engage [our] various publics” as its point of departure and extends this call to question how we define and then work with, within and through our “various publics” in our research, scholarship, and teaching. In particular, we invite scholars to share their insights on and experiences of engaging in research, scholarship and teaching with, within and through their local communities.

JSSI brings you the latest research, discussion and analysis on contemporary sport issues. In JSSI scholars study the impact of sport on social issues from many perspectives. EJSS’ function is to enable an international discussion about current issues and to foster collaboration between researchers from all social scientific sub-disciplines. It’s published 4 times per year. Academics in various disciplines are writing about sport. Sport in Society is a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary forum for academics to discuss the growing relationship of sport to significant areas of modern life. Quest is the official journal of the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education (NAKHE). It is the leading journal for interdisciplinary scholarship for professionals in kinesiology in higher education. The Forum Editor’s pick from the current issue: What Kinesiology Research is Most Visible to the Academic World? by Duane Knudson.

SSJ publishes original research, framed by social theory, on exercise, sport, physical culture, and the (physically active) body. The journal publishes peer-reviewed empirical, theoretical, and position papers; book reviews; and critical essays. The Forum Editor’s pick from the current issue: Becoming Fans: Socialization and Motivations of Fans of the England and U.S. Women’s National Football Teams by Rachel Allison, Stacey Pope.

The goal of the collection is to bring together research that explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the nature and extent of the social inequalities that exist in sport and physical activity settings. Such research can identify specific problems that need to be addressed by organisations and practitioners involved in promoting physical activity to social groups both in-person and online who have historically low participation levels and those who have been particularly effected by the pandemic social conditions.

Previous scientific findings reinforce the importance of traditional sporting games (TSGs) in fostering experiences of integral well-being or multimodal learning (emotional, relational, or decisional). TSGs, such as ball games, skittles games, team games (dodge ball, fox, chicken, snake, cops and robbers) and tag games are also an excellent resource for PE teachers. We expect to receive manuscripts based on the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) classification in order to find common tactical principles.

Kinesiology Review is a peer-reviewed publication whose mission ir is to advance the field of Kinesiology by publishing evaluative, insightful, and integrative scholarly reviews of kinesiology research, both basic and applied.
