Call For Participation | “Addressing Homophobia At Mega-Sport Events” | European Networking Conference, 17-18 November 2017, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Registration ends October 30 2017
The aim of the conference is to foster the exchange of ideas how to tackle homophobia, and how to create awareness of discrimination in sports, in particular in the framework of mega-sport events. We are inviting supporter groups, NGOs, athletes, football activists, national and international sport associations, academics, students and everybody who is interested to this conference.
Much of the research on the relationship between sport and masculinity in the 20th century documented how heterosexual men and boys were regulated by an orthodox form of masculinity. This handbook is intended to further examine the changing relationship between contemporary sports (broadly conceived) and masculinities.
Football, Education and Prejudice is a one day conference that will focus on the forms, effects, and outcomes relating to how prejudice in sport, particularly football, manifest themselves. We feel that it is vital for this event to be inter-disciplinary in outlook and we therefore encourage submissions from educationalists, historians, sociologists, cultural theorists and political scientists.
What is the nature and extent of discrimination in sport today? How does it affect people’s experience of sport and their wider lives? What are the barriers to change? And how can discrimination best be tackled in the future? We welcome proposals from academics, postgraduates and policy makers, who wish to present papers making empirical, theoretical or personal contributions.
