Call for Participation | Cricket, Caribbean Migration, and the Remaking of Postwar England | Zoom Seminar, February 24, 2026

How should we write the history of the “Windrush Generation”? And in what sense can Caribbean cricket be said to have “remade” postwar England? This talk, discussing aspects of Dr Michael Collins’ new book Windrush Cricket (Oxford University Press 2025) requires no knowledge of the game itself, but will seek to persuade listeners of cricket’s cultural and ideological importance in our understanding of Caribbean and British history, race and Englishness, postwar migration and contemporary national identity.

Call for Participants | “Fighting discriminations in sports: the legal framework”, EUniWell Social Talks | Open Digital Lecture, April 15, 2025, 10–11 AM CEST

Sports competitions are often based on nationality, resulting in a form of accepted discrimination because of the specific characteristics of sport. But does the same principle apply to professional competitions? And does it also apply if private entities are organizing them? Through the examination of some case law, the lecture aims to clarify what is the limit of legitimate discrimination in sports. Speakers: Giulia Mannucci and Ippolito Piazza, University of Florence.
