Contracts play a crucial role in the world of sport, particularly long-term contracts. Contractual agreements form the foundation of transnational sports governance, sports governing bodies are all formally the product of a specific time of contract (be it in the form of an association or corporation) often justifying the autonomy of sport and its private governance at a (more or less far) distance from the state. This workshop proposes to explore the role of long-term contracts in sport and their characteristics through a variety of theoretical and methodological lenses.

ACSS 2025 is a two-day Conference that will offer participants the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and best practices in the world of Sport Science. Leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars will attend to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of Sport Science. We encourage research papers and training approaches based on integrating different disciplines applied in Sport Science to enhance sport performance to be submitted to the conference.

This session aims to intervene by bringing together work, ideas, and perspectives at the intersection of mobility studies and sport studies to further dialogue and collaboration between these fields. We, therefore, broadly invite papers that offer empirical, conceptual, methodological, reflective, review or agenda-setting contributions around ‘sport mobilities’ and consider the applications, promises, challenges, and possible directions for sport and mobility connections.

Martial arts, combat sports, and all forms of fighting in general, are globally overshadowed by the prejudice of violence and blood, inhabiting a black and degrading zone of irrationality. The conference ON FIGHT, focused on the relationship between Philosophy and Sport, seeks to constitute a horizon for specific or interdisciplinary reflections and contributions, promoting the sharing of research, critical thinking and practice.

This conference arises from the desire to promote a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and revitalized discussion on football fandom and supporter culture. The objective is not merely to share case studies deepening our understanding of these social practices already outlined into the advocated four key areas of focus, but also to reflect on the intricate ways in which they interact with various aspects of the current world. Shifting our initial analytical focus to fans’ commitment and involvement with their clubs can offer a fresh perspective on what we can perceive as the constitutive processes of contemporary communities.

We welcome papers on historical and other humanities-based approaches to the study of exercise, strength, sport training, strength athletes, competitive lifting, the healthful benefits of exercise, and all other aspects of what we call “physical culture” across the millennia. Our hope is that many of you will choose to present in person this year and perhaps also make time to use the Stark’s resources during a visit to Austin. By meeting together we can, hopefully, learn more about each other, discuss our work, create new collaborations, and help the field of Physical Culture Studies continue to grow.

The conference Anthropology of Sport, focused on the relationship between Philosophical Anthropology and Sport, also aims to open the field of reflection to different areas of knowledge, intending to provide the opportunity to think freely and have the widest possible scope. Offering a heterogeneous and interdisciplinary academic environment, where the Philosophy of Sport will certainly provide an open horizon for reflections and contributions from across the spectrum of academic knowledge, promoting the sharing of research, thought, and practice.
