The North American Society for Sport History (NASSH) invites submissions for its NASSH Dissertation Prize. The Dissertation Prize is awarded on a biannual basis and recognizes outstanding doctoral dissertations in the field of sport history. The winner of the prize receives $1000.

    Eligibility

The next award to be offered will be the 2023 award for PhDs completed between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2022. In addition the following eligibility criteria apply:

        • Applicants must be current NASSH members at the time of submission to the NASSH Dissertation Prize Committee (2022), as well as the year the prize is awarded (2023).
        • Consistent with the scope of NASSH itself, any historical study of sport (defined as “all aspects of competitive games, play, physical culture, and all other forms of physical activity”) will be considered.
        • Eligibility for this award is not contingent upon an applicant’s national citizenship or the location of the university in which an applicant was enrolled.

    Application Procedure

Applicants must complete the Dissertation Prize Award nomination form (available as a PDF). Candidates should attach the nomination form, a letter of nomination from either the author or a dissertation committee member, and a complete copy of their dissertation in PDF form and save the all files as a single PDF document. The files should be named LastName_FirstName.pdf and should be uploaded to the NASSH Conference Conftool system under the Dissertation Prize Award option. More information on the submission procedure can be found here: https://www.nassh.org/awards/dissertation-prize-award/.

    DEADLINE: December 31, 2022
