Following the success of year, registration for the 2025 Cultures of Mountain Biking (CoMTB) online seminar series is now open via our Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1223199796519?aff=oddtdtcreator
For those of you not familiar with our work, CoMTB are an interdisciplinary, culturally diverse, and global group of researchers whose aim is to understand the social, cultural, and political significance of mountain biking in contemporary societies.
In February, presentations focus on the role of mountain biking in addressing discrimination, inequality and injustice in contemporary societies. Then, in April, we will be presenting the latest cutting-edge research on trail building and trail building practices, asking: (1) can the increasing professionalisation of trail building help to (re) connect people with meaningful, ‘craft-based’ work that encourages communal engagement and ecological stewardship? And, (2): can public and/or state authorities play a part in this?
We had a great turnout last year, but in 2025 we hoping to grow the group even further. So, if you have an interest in the social, cultural, and/or political significance of mountain biking, or perhaps you are a sociologist/philosopher/cultural studies scholar with an interest in how contemporary social theory is being utilised in the study or lifestyle sports, alternative physical activities and outdoor recreation, please do join us for one of these events.
