Sport is a social and cultural phenomenon that not only reflects but also shapes the dynamics of life in society, encompassing power relations, identities, inequalities, and social norms. Furthermore, it serves as a space where issues of gender, race, and class are manifested and negotiated, allowing us to observe how collective and individual identities are constructed and challenged. Sport can also be a means of social cohesion and inclusion, but at the same time, it may perpetuate stereotypes and exclusions. How sport is organised and practised can influence public health, community well-being, and social mobilisation, making it a fundamental field of study for understanding the complexities of human interaction and social structures.

Therefore, it is essential to understand how emotions influence sporting practice and how, in turn, sport impacts our emotions. Recognising the theoretical, methodological, and political framework surrounding emotions and the body in this context is crucial. By addressing these issues as political, social, cultural, and symbolic matters, we can analyse their influence on sporting practice and the power dynamics that sustain it. In this working group, we aim to create a space for critical reflection on these interactions, to promote research that delves into the role of emotions in the construction of sporting identities, and to explore the implications of emotional experiences on the performance, health, and corporeality of those participating in sport, whether as athletes or spectators. Additionally, we aspire to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue that enriches our understanding of how social and cultural structures shape our experiences in the sporting realm.

We invite international scholars to submit abstracts of 300 words plus three keywordsthis Working Group. Click on this link to our submission pageCongress participation is free of charge.
