Important Announcement Regarding IAPS 2021 Annual ConferenceAfter much discussion and deliberation, the Executive Council, in consultation with the conference host, has come to the decision that this year’s International Association for the Philosophy of Sport conference in Split will not be held in person as planned. COVID-19 has resulted in the implementation of travel bans and the withholding of university funding for many of our members, making an in-person conference unfeasible. However, IAPS is planning a limited on-line conference with specifically invited keynotes and panel sessions, as well as holding the AGM. We anticipate that this event will be held in the same conference week in September and will be free to IAPS members. More details will follow soon. Pam Sailors |
Following postponement in 2020, the International Association for the Philosophy of Sport invites the submission of abstracts to be considered for presentation at the 48th annual IAPS meeting and essays for the 2021 R. Scott Kretchmar Student Essay Award. The conference will be held on September 21-24, 2021 in Split, Croatia, hosted by Matija Škerbić.
The conference is currently planned to be held in person but there is likely to also be a virtual component for those who are not able or willing to travel. Due to the uncertainty around the coronavirus and the vaccines, ultimately it may not be possible to hold the conference in person. Further details on this will be determined at a later date and communicated to attendees as early as possible.
Abstracts are welcome on any area of philosophy of sport (broadly construed), including metaphysics, epistemology, aesthetics, and ethics, and from any theoretical approach, including analytic philosophy and critical theory. While IAPS recognizes, values, and encourages interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies, acceptance is contingent on the philosophical content of the project. Emerging scholars are encouraged to submit works in progress.
Deadline for abstract submission is April 16, 2021. Contributors will be notified about the status of their abstracts by May 21, 2021.
Proposals for round table and panel discussions, including a tentative list of participants, are also welcome and should be directed towards the IAPS Conference Chair, Emily Ryall (eryall@glos.ac.uk).
