Dear all,
Back to normal now, when the book production I’ve devoted myself to of late is about to be printed? Well, not really. I rather think it’s a case of over-compensating for the poor output of the past few weeks. This is not the new normal – but it’s nice.
Last week the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,

Trening for unge lagidrettsutøvere: Hva bør tas i betraktning for optimal utvikling? [Training for young team athletes: What should be taken into consideration for optimal development?]

Lars M. Tingelstad’s doctoral project PLAY included 471 young football and handball players to take a closer look at how physical performance develops during puberty, with a particular focus on sex and age group differences among young team sport athletes. One key finding was that boys already from early age outperformed girls in physical performance, and also had a more pronounced development compared to the girls. Another important finding was the considerable individual variation in both performance and development across all groups. (Published in Norwegian 241028; English abstract available.
Book Reviews
Talent Identification: (Un)conscious gold diggers, goldsmiths and gold creators, by Niels Nygaard Rossing & Christian Meedom Wrang

Talent identification is about the ability to recognise potential talents in different contexts, and this has become increasingly important over the past few years since it is considered a crucial parameter for success in sport. In his review of Niels Nygaard Rossing’s and Christian Meedom Wrang’s book Talent Identification: (Un)conscious gold diggers, goldsmiths and gold creators (Aalborg University Press), Magnus Ferry finds the book to be easy yet elaborate, as well as inspirational, and thus highly recommendable. (Review in English, published 241029.)
The Science of Esports, by Craig McNulty, Remco Polman, Matthew Watson & Kabir Bubna

The Science of Esports by Craig McNulty, Remco Polman, Matthew Watson & Kabir Bubna (Routleedge) draws from contemporary research and coach expertise to examine esports athlete health and performance from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Leonardo Colares Castro appreciates the many undeniable qualities of the book under review; however, there are quite a few things that he would have liked to see included or elaborated on. (Review in English, published 241030.)
A Nordic sport social work in the context of refugee reception, by Tony Blomqvist Mickelsson

Sports have increasingly been considered a movement that is addressing social issues. Tony B. Mickelsson’s dissertation, A Nordic sport social work in the context of refugee reception (Södertörn University), examines the necessary conditions for including underrepresented populations in Swedish sports clubs, such as people with migrant backgrounds. Maddie Brockbank finds much to appreciate in the book, saying it “carves a compelling pathway for further work in this area of study”. (Review in English, published 241031.)
