Dear all,

What a week it was! Well, it began all right, but from Friday until Sunday, for a variety of very good reasons, I was unable to publish even a single page. Regrettably.
So, last week only the following items were published on idrottsforum.org (see below; language and publication dates, YYMMDD, in brackets). Click on the red headings to go to content. Utilize the Google Translate service to turn Scandinavian language pages into (some sort of) English.
Have a great week,

Book Reviews

Non-levelled playing fields and the rise of fitness: Social inequality in late modern youth sport in Norway by Mads Skauge

In May 2022, Mads Skauge presented and defended his Ph.D. dissertation Non-levelled playing fields and the rise of fitness: Social inequality in late modern youth sport in Norway, which studies inequalities in organized youth sports and commercial fitness participation. We asked Marie Larneby to read his thesis, and her thorough review shows that Skauge, a few problems notwithstanding, adds new knowledge of participation patterns and opportunities in a rapidly changing society. (Review in English published 221025.)

Physical Education in Irish Schools, 1900–2000: A History by Conor Curran

Conor Curran’s peer reviewed study Physical Education in Irish Schools, 1900–2000: A History (Peter Lang Publishing) is the first major examination of the history of physical education in Irish primary and second level schools in the twentieth century. Björn Sandahl wrote a similar study about Swedish physical education, and his insightful and appreciative review of Curran’s book highlights the author’s careful use and analysis of historical sources. An important contribution to the body of literature in this area. (Review in Swedish published 221027.)
