    Susanna Hedenborg reviews and appreciates two new books that deal with equestrianism, differently and yet similarly, Equestrian Cultures in Global and Local Contexts by Miriam Adelman & Kirrilly Thompson, eds., (Springer), and Women, Horseracing and Gender: Becoming ‘One of the Lads’ by Deborah Butler (Routledge).

    Women’s football in a man’s world – a never-ending story of subordination

    Lise Joern reviews a collected volume from the impressive “Football Research in an Enlarged Europe” series at Palgrave Macmillan, Female Football Players and Fans: Intruding into a Man’s World, edited by Gertrud Pfister and Stacey Pope. She appreciates the book and its contributions but ends on a note of pessimism about the situation for women’s football and its fans.

    Stable Cultures in Cyberspace

    In recent years, questions about the keeping and welfare of horses have been debated in social media. Voices of researchers, elite and leisure riders are heard, and different ideas about horse-keeping meet, clash and are discussed. The purpose of this study is to analyze stable cultures in cyberspace in Sweden and Norway. Horse riders’ communication in social media in relation to horse-keeping will be focused.

    International Review for the Sociology of Sport, Vol. 53, 2018, No. 4

    The International Review for the Sociology of Sport is a peer reviewed academic journal. Its main purpose is to disseminate research and scholarship on sport throughout the international academic community. The journal publishes research articles of varying lengths, from standard length research papers to shorter reports and commentary, as well as book and media reviews.

    Malmö Youth Sport Study: A longitudinal study of a secondary school in Malmö, Sweden, specializing in physical activity and sports

    This is a presentation of the longitudinal and multidisciplinary research program Malmö Youth Sport Study (MYSS). The aims, methods, empirical materials and theoretical basis are introduced. The study asks questions related to the role of physical activity and sports to promote an active lifestyle and to foster elite athletes.

    Two new books shed light on the relationship between humans and horses

    Susanna Hedenborg has read two important new books on the human–horse relationship, Becoming Centaur: Eighteenth-Century Masculinity and English Horsemanship by Monica Mattfeld (Pennsylvania State University Press), and Human–Animal Relationships in Equestrian Sport and Leisure by Katherine Dashper (Routledge).

Sport in Society is a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary forum for academics to discuss the growing relationship of sport to significant areas of modern life.

    En inspirationskilde til det brede idrætsfelt

    Den första svenska läroboken i idrottsvetenskap utkom i mars 2016. Antologin Idrottsvetenskap: En introduktion (Studentlitteratur), sammanställd av Susanna Hedenborg, tar ett brett flervetenskapligt grepp om sitt ämne. Vår recensent är Lone Friis Thing vid Københavns Universitet, som själv sammanställt liknande, danska antologier.

    Välkomna till releaseparty för den första heltäckande läroboken i samhällsvetenskaplig och humanistisk idrottsvetenskap, som just publicerat på det Lundabaserade läromedelsförslaget Studentlitteratur. I Orkanenbiblioteket, Nordenskiöldsgatan 10, presenteras boken av Susanna Hedenborg och några av författarna, så kom dit på måndag den 21 mars kl 15:00 och lyssna.
