This symposium will bring together national and international perspectives from different disciplines, including film and television studies, literary and cultural studies, sport science, performing arts and history. Panels will focus on the spheres of sport and dance as codified physical and popular cultural activities that have historically connected individuals and peoples across the continent of Europe.

This webinar will provide a global focus on sport and film, examining the critical role film has played in affirming the relationship between sport and national cultures internationally. Covering films of all types, from Hollywood blockbusters to regional documentaries and newsreels, Dr Crosson’s new book Sport, Film, and National Culture considers how filmic depictions of sport have configured and informed a wide range of distinctive national cultures, societies and identities.

The anthology Sport, Film and National Culture will be the first major single volume collection to survey the significance and interaction of these three prominent cultural forces internationally, through in-depth case-studies of the historical and contemporaneous relationship between sport, film and national culture; interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives are welcome.

Sports Coaching Review is an international peer-reviewed medium for the publication of articles related to sports coaching. It aspires to be a major focal point for the publication of sports coaching research throughout the world. The journal is mono, multi and interdisciplinary in approach. We encourage submissions that resist the imposition of the white gaze as the primary lens through which we theorize about sexuality, gender, and black athletes. The collection will explore how cultural narratives of blackness, gender, and sexuality remain entangled in, through, and against sport.

The Journal of Sport History is published three times a year by the North American Society for Sport History (NASSH). The purpose of NASSH is to promote, stimulate, and encourage study and research and writing of the history of sport, and to support and cooperate with local, national, and international organizations having the same purposes.
