While there is literature on the role of sport professionals (i.e. athletes, managers, club owners, sport scientists and psychologists, coaching staff etc.) in today’s sports industry, there seem to be less evidence in the existing literature on the significance and role of organizing/organization and professional ownership in sport, particularly in the Nordic region. This track invites theoretical and empirical studies, with several sub-topics in the field of sport management organization and ownership.

The aim of this compilation thesis is to examine and analyze the preconditions for conducting social entrepreneurship in sport. In sum, the thesis contributes with empirical examples of social entrepreneurial sport organisations; a theoretical understanding of the “social” dimension of social entrepreneurship in sport; an ethical discussion on the role of researchers; and a starting point when discussing the Swedish government support for sport.

This special issue seeks to bring together empirical and conceptual work on the area of sport and livelihoods within the sport for development field. For this special issue, all papers that discuss, explore, and/or expand knowledge about the relationship between sport and livelihoods in various local, national, and international contexts are welcome. Papers from different disciplines are invited.

The aim of this special journal issue is to focus on how sport entrepreneurship is related to the fitness and lifestyle entrepreneurship, emphasising the way sport fits into individuals lifestyles based on cultural and social trends. Thus, the issue will be the first to explicitly focus on how sport, fitness and lifestyle entrepreneurship need to be integrated in order to advance the entrepreneurship literature.
