The School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen’s University would like to invite all those interested in socio-cultural studies of sport and exercise to our annual day conference, held in the memory of our colleague Dr. Donald Macintosh.

We are looking for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex or questioning athletes, coaches or other members of the athletic community (either “out” or “not out”) of all levels (amateur, collegiate, semi-professional or professional) to write a short narrative essay or memoir about their personal experiences as a queer member of the athletic community.

The symposium will explore the ways in which Muhammad Ali appears in un/expected spaces, beyond conventional readings. We are seeking to explore such questions as: What is Ali’s twenty-first century significance? How do we interpret the global meanings of Ali? Is sport central or peripheral to understanding Ali?

This international meeting aims to elucidate the many ways that city dwellers have striven to appropriate rivers and riverbanks for leisure purposes from the 19h century to today. The goal-perspective approach to the conference will be a pluridisciplinary task, seeking to understand the complex circumstances that intersect with several areas and disciplines.

This Special Issue of the Sociology of Sport Journal seeks to generate new theoretical and empirical knowledge that enhances the adequacy of our sociological understanding of sports workers’ emotions, mental health, as well as their experience and management of mental illness.

This one-day symposium will open up debates and explore the nuances of sex and sexualities within popular culture and will afford a platform for postgraduate students (MA/MSc onwards) and creative practitioners exploring these areas to meet peers, share work and learn from each other.

Video games are today depicted as an evident leisure activity. Yet, the legitimization of this hobby has undertaken a chaotic track. Playing video games has, in fact, transformed from a marginal and isolated activity to a global and mainstream pastime.

Social Work in Sports 2015: An Idea Whose Time Has Come will be a one-day symposium to discuss the role of social work in youth, high school, collegiate, amateur and professional sports.
