Arguably, trans people are subject to discrimination, or worse. Whether or not they are also, as trans athletes, discriminated in sports is a moot point. In a new edited collection, Justice for Trans Athletes: Challenges and Struggles by Ali Durham Greey & Helen Jefferson Lenskyj (Emerald), the contributors argue for full inclusion of transwomen athletes in the female category of competitive sports. Our reviewer, legal and political philosopher Miroslav Imbrišević is a well-known exponent of the opposite view.

Damion Sturm’s and Roslyn Kerr’s edited collection Sport in Aotearoa New Zealand: Contested Terrain (Routledge) investigates the sporting traditions, successes, systems, “terrains” and contemporary issues that underpin sport in New Zealand, also known by its Māori name of Aotearoa. Our reviewer is Rod Philpot, who enjoyed reading the book and gained new understandings of sport, sportspeople and sporting and recreational activities that are occurring in his own backyard.

In this feature article, Solveig Elisabeth Hausken-Sutter and colleagues summarize their article from BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine in which they present an overview of youth football and youth sport injury research. They show that research in this field lacks integration across disciplines and paradigms, and propose an interdisciplinary research process as a response to the call for interdisciplinarity in sport injury research.

According to our reviewer Benjamin Moreland, this perennial handbook is a vital contribution to the academic conversations surrounding gender and sexuality and a foundational read for scholars and students alike.
