    This PhD position focuses on sustainable urban planning, with emphasis on physical activity and sport in urban areas. Studies of cities and communities that prioritize active lifestyles show that they tend to be more sustainable by enabling residents to be more physically active in their daily routines. We therefore encourage applications focusing on areas such as organised and un-organised sport and physical activity, active mobility, public sector engagement for sport facilitation, sport and social inclusion, and sport for development.

    To strengthen ongoing research within the fields of outdoor studies and mental health, DTEOS invites applications for a PhD-position focusing on mental health and nature-based interventions and programming. More specifically, the pre-defined project will examine the influence of a weekly friluftsliv program that takes place in local nature on young people’s mental health. The academic work will be based at NIH in Oslo, Norway.

    The PhD candidates will be a part of an international team of innovation researchers at INN University and integrated into the research group Lillehammer Olympic and Paralympic Studies Centre (LOSC). The project is part of the LOSC’s four-year plan, and the prospective PhD candidate would contribute to the teaching, researching, and networking within the research group. The predefined project is under the supervision of Svein Erik Nordhagen and Jörg Krieger.

    The two PhD positions are offered within the interdisciplinary project “Outdoor experience in the age of digitalization” which contributes to University of Bern’s “People in Digital Transformation” strategic focus. The overall research aim is to understand how digital tools mediate outdoor movement activities like hiking and mountain running in ordinary and virtual reality.

    Co-funded by the University of Canberra and Sport Integrity Australia, the project will support a PhD scholar to complete a doctoral research program that will seek to identify mechanisms to reduce the insidious and increasing levels of toxic abuse online and cyber hate directed at women involved in the sport industry. In this project, we broadly define cyberbullying as hurtful messages that are threatening, humiliating, or intimidating to individuals.
