    The Journal of Sport Management encourages the submission of manuscripts in a number of areas as they relate to the management, governance, and consumption of sport. Studies using quantitative and/or qualitative approaches are welcomed.

    Cross-national comparison with lots of bone and a paucity of flesh and blood

    The relationship between sport (con)federations and governmental bodies in 13 countries is the subject for Sport Policy Systems and Sport Federations: A Cross-National Perspective, edited by Jeroen Scheerder, Annick Willem & Elien Claes (Palgrave). Our reviewer is Hallgeir Gammelsæter, and he has some serious objections which render the book less than useful.

    Josef Fahlén är inte helt nöjd med de högtflygande ambitionerna i George Cunninghams redigerade volym Sport Management. De enskilda bidragen är utmärkta var för sig, men skapar ingen heltäckande bild.

    “The quest for interdisciplinarity will have to wait for another day”

    The pursuit of interdisciplinarity in sport studies in the hope of breaking the natural and biosciences hegemony in the field is the objective of editor Joseph Maguire’s collected volume Social Sciences in Sport. Alan Bairner reviews the effort and finds much to appreciate, but apparently, this is not the holy grail that the social sciences of sport urgently need.
