The Sport, Exercise, & Kinesiology Unit of ATINER was established in 1995 as an independent world association of sports scholars. Its mission is to act as a forum where academics in the field from all over the world can meet and exchange ideas on their research. The aim of the conference is to bring together academics and researchers to present on sports topics within broad streams of research areas.

In our fifth instalment of horse sessions at the International Medieval Congress, we especially invite submissions in horse history responding to the special thematic strand of IMC 2020: borders. We also invite papers in horse history coming from all disciplinary approaches, including military studies, literature and art history, oriental studies, archaeology, osteology, history of veterinary medicine, and others.

The questions posed to the researchers and practitioners at this conference will aim at identifying avenues of action and exchanging best practices that will meet the expectations of all the actors concerned. In addition, the conference will open a critical discussion on the concepts mobilized in the current evolution of the missions of physical educators.

The congress offers the opportunity for researchers, sport staff and students to analyse “Youth and Winter Sports” in a multidisciplinary scientific program. Sessions and workshops will focus on specific sport, on important topics or on professional practices. It will give opportunities for researchers, practitioners and sports organisation’s staff to meet and debate.

The Symposium will aim to illuminate and nuance the relationship between gender and power within the transnational regulatory system that governs football (with FIFA at its helm); to identify specific gendered implications of existing governance structures, rules and procedures; and to consider innovative ideas for feminist reform or revolution.

There has to date been little considered and comparative analysis of the many ways in which sporting stories are told across different cultures and the many purposes they serve. ‘Telling the Story of Sport’ aims to redress this by creating a forum in which individual scholars are invited to contextualise their research and begin to develop a fuller understanding of the phenomenon of sporting narrative practices.

The symposium will bring together the spectrum of behavioral, mental, and physical health professionals who aim to positively influence the mental health and functioning of athletes. In college, professional, and Olympic sports there is a movement towards integrated behavioral health teams that include physicians, trainers, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nutritionists, and other licensed professional counselors.

The theme “decolonizing sport sociology” focuses on the multiple contradictions we – individually and institutionally – confront in our research, teaching, and service. The contradictions mean that we all have a responsibility to challenge settler colonialism. The question is how do we continue to transform ourselves, institutions, and world? This isn’t simply a self-reflective exercise.

The 2019 British Autoethnography conference provides an inter-disciplinary space to explore different ways we come to know, understand and communicate. We hope novice and neophyte researchers will be supported to develop their practice alongside more experienced practitioners and we hope each of us is able to inspire, challenge, nurture each other while witnessing and responding to our presentations and performances. 

At the annual meeting of the Pacific Division of the American Philosophical Association, Shawn Klein will be chairing the IAPS Session on Thursday, April 18, 6–8 pm.
