The anthology Trends and Advances in Sport and Leisure Management: Expanding the Frontiers, edited by Vassilios Ziakas (Cambridge Scholars Publishing), explores, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the complex dynamics that are reshaping sport and leisure provision. Hans Lundberg has read the collection very carefully, whereby he didn’t miss neither missteps nor expressions of brilliance, and all that’s in between. Except for a few drawbacks the volume is very much to his liking.

Between 2015 and 2019, 52 per cent of the Secretary Generals (SGs) of Norwegian sport federations left their positions. The rate is significantly higher than in the Norwegian labour market in general and poses a further difficulty for a Norwegian sport system already facing many challenges. This article by Hans Erik Næss and Tor Anders Hanssen examines why this is the case. The article provides a contribution to sport leadership research and shows how the lack of continuity among SGs in national sport federations demonstrates the need for organisational change.

Idrott och politik, ett lika uppenbart som ifrågasatt samband, kopplas till kampen för mänskliga rättigheter i Hans Erik Næss’ senaste bok med det passande namnet Idrett, politikk og menneskerettigheter (Fagbokforlaget). Vi gav boken till Karin Zackari, MR-forskare vid Lunds universitet. Trots en del kritiska synpunkter, bland annat rörande pedagogiska brister och lite rörig struktur, framhåller hon bokens värde som ett bidrag till diskussionen om MR och sport och ett verktyg för rättighetsaktivister.

A History of Organizational Change: The case of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), 1946–2020 by Hans Erik Næss (Palgrave Macmillan) is the first independent study of FIA’s institutional history. Our reviewer, organisation researcher Cecilia Stenling, confesses to scant knowledge about cars in general and motorsport in particular. So, she learnt a lot about the latter from Næss, but has reservations when it comes to his narrative design as well as his handling of theory.
