The purpose of this article collection is to shed light on the wider utility of sport spectatorship to achieve social and psychological outcomes in different countries, contexts, and populations. We strongly encourage novel and innovative approaches to researching this topic – notably conceptual and/or methodological aspects that are inclusive and accepting of the ontology and epistemology of the community within which the research is conducted.

The goal of this Research Topic is to investigate: (1) various aspects of association between active living (e.g., physical activity, exercise, sport) and psychosocial health outcomes (e.g., social well-being, social health, depressive symptoms, quality of life, life satisfaction, happiness, loneliness, etc.) as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and (2) effectiveness of various new/existing means (e.g., social media platform, virtual sport competitions, etc.) on active living and psychosocial health outcomes.

New technologies are changing how people communicate and consume sport culture. Wearable devices are changing the way we track and monitor physical activities; extended reality (e.g., VR/AR/MR) is providing new channels for sporting experiences; new media is transforming marketing communication and consumer culture; and data analytics and management is revolutionizing how we operate sport organizations.

Despite the increasing efforts to promote education on anti-doping, there is limited empirical evidence guiding educational anti-doping initiatives. The main goal of this Research Topic is to gather research in the field of doping in sport, particularly anti-doping intervention in adolescents. Interventions are not limited to educational methodologies. Innovative anti-doping intervention designs for adolescents.

This Research Topic seeks to address a gap in current scholarship, notably research that empirically examines the success and sustainability of approaches to developing, structuring, and delivering women’s professional sport. Professional sport is delimited as any sport that provides continuous paid employment and the opportunity to pursue said employment as a career.

In this Research Topic we aim to gather scientific evidence about the potential of Traditional Sporting Games and Play in promoting cultural diversity, emotional well-being, peace education, social inclusion, equal opportunities and intelligent decision learning. We encourage contributors to present their studies considering any field from different theoretical paradigms, as well as innovative research designs.

Because sports are a meaningful form of social activity that affects so many structures including politics, the economy, and, perhaps, the values of citizens, they raise a wide range of issues, some of which are objective or empirical in character. Thus, the aim of this Research Topic is to assemble both applied or theoretical research from experts within the field of sport psychology, sociology, performance and exercise or any correlated field.
