Call for Papers | “Transgressing Boundaries: Migration and Sport”, a SiNAFE Conference | March 3-4, 2023, at Istanbul Bilgi University. Call ends February 8, 2023
In this project, we try to preserve a simple but crucial idea: having equal conditions in sports is a human right. With the idea that “sport is a human right,” the project wants to promote social inclusion and help make sure that everyone has equal opportunities in sports, with a particular focus on migrants. Sport is oftentimes cited as the perfect tool for upward mobility, and many young athletes attach their hopes and dreams to sport, particularly football, to ascend socially. Still, migrant athletes continue to suffer from social exclusion.

Rapporten her baserer sig på den til dato største undersøgelse af frivillighed i dansk fodbold. Mere end 11.000 personer har deltaget i undersøgelsen, hvoraf ca. 5.000 er frivillige. Aldrig før i dansk idræt er frivillighed blevet belyst ved så stort et antal respondenter. Det er unikt og giver nu fodbolden og idrætten som helhed ny og vigtig viden, der skal danne grundlag for kommende initiativer med henblik på at styrke frivilligheden i dansk fodbold.
Call for Papers | “Football vs. Ice Hockey in the European Sports Landscape”, Special Issue of Sport in Society | Call ends April 15, 2023
This special issue intends to grasp and analyse the relationship between football and ice hockey, from different angles and perspectives focusing on identity, political ambitions, markets and sponsoring, spectator cultures, city-marketing in relation to sport successes. The basic aim is to detect and investigate differences and similarities in the complex of ‘football versus ice hockey in the European sports landscape’.

Svenska Fotbollförbundet, Elitprojekt herr 2020-23, bjuder in till forskningsseminarium. Seminariet, där forskningsresultat från studier genomförda i svensk fotboll presenteras, arrangeras tillsammans med Institutionen för kost- och idrottsvetenskap vid Göteborgs Universitet. Seminariet är kostnadsfritt och riktar sig till tränare, ledare och fystränare i elitmiljöer samt forskare och studenter med intresse av fotboll. Anmälan krävs. Sista anmälningsdag är den 16 december 2022.

Call for Participants | Football presidents: towards a typology of political cultures | Webinar (Teams), September 15–16, 2022
Back in April, idrottsforum.org published a Call for Papers for this webinar which intended to have an international panorama on different political cultures and its leaderships. Bringing scholars from different contexts, it was expected to foster research on football club presidents and their “styles of management”, as well as developing a broader understanding of different empirical cases to build a typology of football political cultures. Sport Scholar Profile | Sara Karlén, Malmö University
Sara Karlén is a PhD student at the Department of Sports Sciences, Malmö University. Her dissertation project studies football supporters and the Swedish supporter culture with a focus on the visual choreographies, known as tifos, that supporters create. In the past, she has studied sports audiences during the corona pandemic with a focus on football supporters, as well as conflicts between fans and police in the Swedish football landscape. Sara has an educational background in sociology and gender studies.
