Can outcomes on physical tests predict future sporting success? A retrospective study of cross-country skiers
This study by Per Göran Fahlström, Filip Andersson and Owe Stråhlman analyzes the relationship between physical test results from a young age and future sporting success in the context of cross-country skiing. A cohort consisting of Swedish cross-country skiers who underwent physical tests before admission into ski high schools between 2002 and 2006. The test results of this cohort were analysed to explore their potential to predict future sporting success, using FIS-points, the official ranking and point system established by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation.

År 2020 framlade Utbildningsdepartementet en promemoria med förslag om förändringar så att det endast ska finnas en typ av idrottsutbildning, vilket innebär en halvering av antalet studieplatser, och ett införande av kompletterande urvalsregler samt undantag till huvudregeln om avgiftsfri utbildning. I denna text reflekterar Filip Andersson över förslaget utifrån möjliga implikationer för urvalet av elever till idrottsutbildningar.
A new sports education “for students who are really at the elite level”: A proposal and possible implications
In 2020, the Swedish Ministry of Education presented a proposal for changes in upper secondary school sport education, to counter alleged decrease in quality of the student-athletes. Consequently, the Ministry of Education wants to establish a uniform school sport system. In his article, Filip Andersson reflects on the above-mentioned proposal and its possible implication for the selection of student-athletes.

Talanger som väljs ut till elitläger och ungdomslandslag i fotboll ofta är födda under första halvan av året. En bidragande orsak till detta är fysiska skillnader i mognad; fenomenet kallas Relative age effect (RAE). I Filip Anderssons studie undersöks om samband finns mellan födelsedatum och uttagning till det svenska P15-landslaget, samt om en uttagning genererar en fortsatt landslagskarriär.
