I centrum för webbinariet står Kalle Janssons nyligen publicerade avhandling från 2024, ”Gud vad jobbigt: religion och etnicitet i ämnet idrott och hälsa”. I avhandlingen undersöks vilka utmaningar och värdekonflikter med koppling till religion och etnicitet som uppstår i skolans idrottsundervisning samt hur dessa hanteras. Exemplen handlar bland annat om värdekonflikter kring islam och skolans simundervisning, kristendom och yoga samt vilken musik som spelas under idrottslektionerna.

Kalle Janssons avhandling ger kunskap om hur religion och etnicitet, tillsammans med kön, blir betydelsefulla i skolämnet idrott och hälsa. Detta uppnås genom en empirisk studie vid fyra olika gymnasieskolor som studerar (a) hur spänningar relaterade till religion och etnicitet tar form och hanteras i idrott, (b) de didaktiska konsekvenserna av hanteringen, och (c) hur religion, etnicitet och kön korsar varandra när spänningarna tar form och hanteras. Studien är grundad i intersektionalitet och pragmatism, med hjälp av lektionsobservationer och intervjuer med lärare och elever.

Det övergripande syftet med Isak Lidströms avhandling är att belysa den moderna skidsportens samiska historia i Sverige utifrån organisations- och kulturhistoriska perspektiv som tar avstamp i begreppen nation och etnicitet. Det handlar med andra ord om att diskutera olika identitetsmässiga relationer som tagit sig uttryck inom organiserad skididrott. I fokus står organisatoriska utvecklingslinjer, nyckelhändelser och -personer ur vilka de kulturella markörer för samiskhet och svenskhet kan friläggas som konstruerats och omförhandlats över tid.

The objective of this IJSMS special issue is to bring together scholarship that seeks to advance our collective knowledge on diversity and inclusion in sport marketing. We acknowledge that diversity may include a myriad of characteristics that distinguish individuals and groups of people. However, this special edition focuses on diversity as it pertains to the following equity seeking groups: Race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability.

Although it never went away, racial inequality is back in the global headlines. The raised profile of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ (BLM) anti-racism movement has polarized opinions in many quarters. Sociologists of sport have an important part to play in making sense of these global trends, controversies and particularities, not least by studying political movements and counter-movements, as well as media portrayals or racialized groups, and their everyday experiences of ethnification and racialization.

There has been a noticeable upsurge in the scholarship on protest and sport, and this volume will compliment and expand on them to highlight the various ways that sport and sporting spaces have been used and their impact on social, political, and economic issues in and around the Black Atlantic and African Diaspora. The current volume will bring these various sporting protests into conversation.

Abstracts are invited – either for individual submissions or for complete panels (3/4 papers) – for papers that address aspects of race, ethnicity and migration in relation to all aspects of sport and physical culture. Theoretical or empirical presentations are welcomed, while contributions may draw on contemporary or historical perspectives.

Isak Lidström är doktorand i idrottsvetenskap med inriktning på idrottshistoria vid institutionen för idrottsvetenskap, Malmö högskola. Hans avhandlingsprojekt handlar om den samiska idrottsrörelsens uppkomst och utveckling i Sverige från 1940-tal till idag.
