Health promotion is concerned with understanding how health and well-being can be promoted. Research in this field addresses a broad range of issues related to health promotion practice. It is interdisciplinary and encompasses a variety of theoretical approaches as well as both qualitative and quantitative methods. An important aim is to generate knowledge and expertise to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of health-promoting interventions. The research focuses primarily on food and physical activity.

The Department of Public Health, Aarhus University, invites applications for one or more full-time open-rank positions at Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. The positions are expected to commence on 1 May 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter. We welcome applications from candidates with a scientific background in one or more of the department's academic areas: Applied Public Health, Clinical Public Health, Epidemiology, Environment and Biostatistics, and Sport Science. An Assistant Professorship is a fixed-term position with a maximum duration of four years. An Associate Professorship is a permanent position.

The available position in the field of Sport Pedagogy will focus particularly on research and development of motivating and physically activating learning and movement environments in the context of school physical education. This corresponds to two of the University of Jyväskylä’s research priorities: learning, teaching and interaction; and physical activity, health and wellbeing. The successful applicant will be responsible for research and education and the development of the field in collaboration with other teachers and researchers in the faculty.

As Assistant Professor of sports and body culture studies your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues. The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.

The successful candidate must have a completed PhD in a scientific discipline that incorporates human nutrition and its relation to health and human performance (RD accreditation is not required), a record of applied research excellence in human nutrition, strong communication skills, and demonstrated commitment to working effectively with individuals throughout the life span from diverse communities and cultures.

We seek a dynamic scholar to complement and enhance our existing sociocultural program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach existing courses while also developing new courses in the School that extend our curriculum in new directions. Research interests and teaching experience with any combination of sociocultural aspects of kinesiology that intersect with social justice issues (e.g., disability studies, gender studies, indigenous studies, critical race studies) and/or Olympic/Paralympic studies would be an asset.

We expect the applicant to participate in the further development of the department’s research in computer-human interaction (HCI and CHI-play) related to play, sports and health. The digital design related to human movement, play, sport, and health is perceived as an interdisciplinary field closely connected with design-related, aesthetic, and technological methods.

The Department of Public Health contributes to or is responsible for teaching in medicine, public health science, sport science and nursing. At the department you will have approx. 200 colleagues, including 90 academic staff members and a corresponding number of PhD students.
