Towards the Professional Development of Supporter Liaison Officers: A Transnational Approach
The Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO) has emerged as a key mechanism for fostering communication between clubs, governing bodies, and fan communities. The SLO function is formally recognized within UEFA licensing regulations, yet its implementation varies considerably across national contexts, reflecting differences in organizational structures, cultural traditions, and regulatory frameworks. Against this backdrop, the project Towards the Professional Development of Supporter Liaison Officers (TPDS) was initiated by Football Supporters Europe (FSE) with financial support from the European Union.
From individual groundbreaking work to established field of research: The development of humanities and social science engagement with the cultural phenomenon of sport in Sweden
Samhällsidrotten och idrottssamhället. Humanistisk och samhällsvetenskaplig idrottsforskning under 50 år [Sport in society and the society of sports. Humanistic and social science sports research over 50 years] is edited by Tomas Peterson and published as a celebration of 50 years of Swedish sport studies within the social sciences and humanities. We went abroad to find a suitable reviewer – not a Swede but Swedish speaking – and Ansgar Molzberger accepted the cumbersome task of reviewing this 556 page tome. And he did well, we are happy to bring his review to your attention.
Do you have to drive to get to the stables? The horse industry’s need for transportation
The horse industry affects the environment through, for example, its dependence on transport, consumption of feed, production of manure and waste, and energy needs. This article by Susanna Hedenborg and colleagues explores and analyses how actors in the horse industry relate to transport dependence. The results are presented as five stories about how people with different roles in the industry relate to transport needs. The industry's needs for knowledge differ for different groups, and the opportunities to change the industry are partly dependent on the actions of other actors.
Gender, sport and politics: A Handbook from the margins
Progressive and broad-ranging, The Routledge Handbook of Gender Politics in Sport and Physical Activity edited by Győző Molnár and Rachael Bullingham, offers a comprehensive overview of the complex intersections between politics, gender, sport and physical activity. In her thorough, competent and highly useful review of this 32 chapters anthology, Anna Sätre highlights the underlying aims of the collection, some detectable trends among the contributions, and several of the chapters that stand out for their critical and innovative approaches.
Svensk idrottsforskning fyller 50!
