Anne Tjønndal reviews two books about coaching, Women in Sports Coaching by Nicole LaVoi (ed.), and Research Methods in Sports Coaching by Lee Nelson, Ryan Groom & Paul Potrac (eds.), both titles from Routledge. Notwithstanding some shortcomings in both books, she considers them useful resources for studying the vast and multifarious field of sports coaching.

The experiences of ethnic ‘Other’ females in sport is the focus of a new edited collection, Race, Gender and Sport: The Politics of Ethnic ‘Other’ Girls and Women (Routledge) by Aarti Ratna & Samaya Farooq Samie. We asked Sepandarmaz Mashregi for a review and she obliged by submitting an appreciative appraisal, albeit not uncritical, and as informative and enlightening as ever.

Every struggle for equality between men and women is hard fought, and at best ends with a victory hard-won. That this is true also in sports is amply demonstrated in Ellen Staurowsky’s edited volume Women and Sport: Continuing a Journey of Liberation and Celebration (Human Kinetics).
