The intention of the workshop is to contribute to discussion of substantive issues, but also to permit reflective analysis of the debate on these matters over the last ten years or so. Whatever one’s view on the substantive matters over eligibility, this period has been interesting and dynamic, with regulation in this contested area changing rapidly.
From the point of view of the history of philosophical thought about sport and its ethical foundation, this has been an unprecedented period. The sub-discipline of Philosophy of Sport, including the British Philosophy of Sport Association (BPSA) and its journal Sport, Ethics and Philosophy has been a central arena of debate.
There are five grants of £400 available to cover travel and accommodations: You must be a paid-up member of the BPSA to apply (the BPSA is open to all nationalities).
This workshop is being run in conjunction with the Czech Philosophy of Sport Association.
400 word abstracts should be sent to Professor Jon Pike at the Open University, Jon.Pike@open.ac.uk by 1st September 2025.
