Goals
The Portuguese Group for History and Sport (GHD) gathers researchers from several institutions, with the main goal of promoting cooperation, research and studies in the field of sport history. The GHD also organizes events for History and Sport at the national and international levels. Also organizes an annual congress, whose goal is the discussion and the production of knowledge in the various aspects of the intersection of history and sport. The theme for the 2015 congress is Sport and Sexuality.
Topic
The congress will be focus on Sexuality and its intersection with Sport and History, opening space for reflection on issues of Gender, Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation.
Thematic tracks
- Sexual harassment, bullying and other forms of violence in sport
- Sexual construction of the athletic person’s body (for example: sexual aesthetic; body modification; body-building; etc.)
- Sports culture and sexism (for example: athlete sex symbol; advertising sports and gender stereotypes; etc.)
- Sexual diversity and cultural transformation in sport
- Sexual division of sports (sports and/or teams of men or women; cultural representations and gender roles in sports occupations; etc.)
- LGBT sporting events (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender)
- Fair play and sexuality (for example: campaigns and good practices in preventing and fighting against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity)
- Homophobia and transphobia in sport (for example: transgender and/or intersex athletes; outings; etc.)
- Sports journalism and sexuality
- Sports language and sexuality
- Aesthetic approaches to body in sports
- Parenthood, reproductive rights and sports
- Sports , body and gender in educational resources
- Sex work and sport
- Sex tourism and mega-sporting events
Call for papers
We seek abstracts of no more than 500 words from persons interested in participating in the II Congress of History and Sport. Please include three key words related to your proposed paper, a brief curriculum vita, academic affiliation and contact information (including email and telephone). Papers can be presented in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

- Participants with papers: 25 euros and 10 euros (students)
