    Call for Papers | “Increasing benefits and decreasing risks”, National Youth Sport Conference | Adelaide, November 16–17, 2023. Call ends July 3, 2023

    The inaugural National Youth Sport Conference is a comprehensive two-day program for academic researchers, Higher Degree Research students, industry organisations and government delegates to exchange new knowledge and enhance the developmental, social, political, psychological and performative dimensions of youth sport. Our conference theme is ‘Increasing benefits and decreasing risks’.

    Research Areas

    The inaugural National Youth Sport Conference 2023 revolves around the axes of the social, psychological, pedagogical, cultural, developmental and political dimensions of youth sport. We exist to connect ideas, expand interdisciplinary knowledge and ultimately improve the holistic outcomes for youth, coaches, clubs, families and communities.

    To achieve this vision, we invite proposal addressing one (or more) of the following research areas:

        • Safeguarding children and youth in sport
        • Violence, abuse and trauma in youth sport
        • Mental health and wellbeing in youth sport
        • Current perspectives on participation and dropout behaviour
        • Care and self-compassion in sport coaching
        • Pre-school aged sport participation
        • Positive Youth Development in organised sport
        • Contemporary perspectives on pathways and transitions through sport
        • Interpersonal (e.g. family, sibling) dynamics in youth sport
        • Current debates on the notion of talent in organised sport
        • Menstrual cycles and athlete performance
        • Perspectives on sampling, specialisation, and investment in youth sport
        • Coaching children in sport
        • Motor development and skill acquisition in youth sport
        • Youth strength and conditioning/athlete development
        • Youth sport experiences in rural, remote, regional and Indigenous communities
        • Community sport and recreation
        • Contemporary perspectives on disability sport coaching and athlete experiences
    Important dates

    Abstract submissions open – 6 March 2023
    Registration opens – 6 March 2023
    Abstract submissions close – 3 July 2023
    Abstract acceptance – 7 August 2023
    Early-bird registration closes – 21 August 2023
    Registration closes – 2 October 2023
    Conference dates – 16-17 November 2023

      • Students (PhD/Masters/Honours) – $200 AUD
