The Oxford Handbook of Sport and Society, edited by Lawrence A, Wenner (Oxford UP), features leading international scholars’ assessments of scholarly inquiry about sport and society. Divided into six sections, chapters consider dominant issues within key areas, approaches featured in inquiry, and debates needing resolution. Our reviewer is Richards Giulianotti, who edited the Sage four volume set The Sociology of Sport in 2012, and he finds that this new collection, some unnecessary omissions notwithstanding, is a welcome addition to the existing list of handbooks in the field.

Arguably, trans people are subject to discrimination, or worse. Whether or not they are also, as trans athletes, discriminated in sports is a moot point. In a new edited collection, Justice for Trans Athletes: Challenges and Struggles by Ali Durham Greey & Helen Jefferson Lenskyj (Emerald), the contributors argue for full inclusion of transwomen athletes in the female category of competitive sports. Our reviewer, legal and political philosopher Miroslav Imbrišević is a well-known exponent of the opposite view.

While LGBTIQ people are far more accepted in sport today than in the past, there still exists bigotry and marginalization. More knowledge is needed, and now provided in the form of Vikki Kranes edited volume Sex, Gender, and Sexuality in Sport: Queer Inquiries (Routledge). It is reviewed here by our critique débutant Anna Adlwarth, and she finds much in this anthology to amend the paucity of theory and research in this field.

Om transgenderister inom tävlingsidrotten handlar Eric Andersons och Ann Travers antologi Transgender Athletes in Competitive Sport (Routledge). Jesper Fundberg för i sin recension flera spännande resonemang, till exempel om att förflyttningen över könsgränser snarare upprätthåller än bryter den binära könsuppdelningen. Dessutom saknar han i boken maktanalysen kring kön och kropp.
