The convergence of outdoor sports with sustainable development represents one of the most promising frontiers in contemporary sports science and practice. As we prepare to host the ICOS+ International Congress of Outdoor Sports at the Sport Sciences School of Rio Maior – Santarém Polytechnic University in June 2025, we are dedicated to explore this dynamic intersection that holds tremendous potential for economic growth, social cohesion, and environmental stewardship.

This special issue seeks to explore such complexities and environmental issues surrounding the Games. We welcome theoretical, empirical, and conceptual submissions from a broad range of disciplines (history, sociology, anthropology, environmental studies, philosophy). While broad, we hope this special issue will capture the array of connections between climate change, physical culture, and the Olympics.
