The World Association for Sport Management (WASM) is pleased to announce its fifth conference to be co-hosted by the North-West University and Cape Peninsula University of Technology. It will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, at the Newlands Cricket Ground from 3 to 6 March 2026. The theme of the WASM 2026 conference is “Global Visions, Local Actions: Innovation and Sustainability in Sport Management.” The conference theme resonates with current industry trends that shape the practices and perspectives of sport management professionals and academics alike.
Call for Participation | Understanding and Measuring Value in Culture, (Sport) Events & Tourism | CCSE Online Symposium, June 8, 2023
In the Annual CCSE Symposium, we seek to explore the complex topic of value across our three main contextual focal points: culture, sport events and tourism. Expert and community priorities in terms of the prospective benefits of a cultural, touristic or sport event input might diverge quite considerably. Meaningful measurement of value is both a consistent consideration and – often – an occasion at which difficulty can be encountered.

This issue welcomes examinations of sport events with particular attention to the role of media and platforms in processes of production of events and/or in related fan strategies and practices – this may include discussions of global and local interests surrounding sport events, and of fan activist movements emerging from or using sport events to promote specific debates.

In terms of theoretical and methodological approaches, we welcome qualitative and quantitative research, multidisciplinary studies with an emphasis on history, policy, management, sociology, ethnography or biography studies. The aim of the special issue is to bridge between different disciplines in sport studies, as well as broader media, Middle Eastern, and North African, studies, to name but a few.

Sport management scholars have mainly focused on environmental aspects of sustainability. However, the conceptualization of sustainability should be enriched by including economic, environmental, social, individual, and ethical aspects to provide meaningful insight into the sport industry in this unprecedented era. In line with this notion, this special issue aims to seek theoretical and practical investigation of sustainability in the field of sport management.
