Engaging and at times almost poetic history of Nordic skiing in the American Midwest
Ryan Rodgers writes the story of Nordic skiing in the Midwest – its origins and history, its star athletes and races, and its place in the region’s social fabric and the nation’s winter recreation – in Winter’s Children: A Celebration of Nordic Skiing (University of Minnesota Press). Our reviewer, sport historian and skiing scholar Daniel Svensson enjoyed reading Rodgers’ book in spite of its non-academic approach. Rodgers’ blend of oral history with archival sources and personal reflections made reading his prose a pleasure.
