    Call for Papers | “Queer Spaces in Sports” Conference | University of Hyderabad, Telangana, India, February 9, 2024. Call ends December 10, 2023

    The presence of queer people in various domains/spaces pertaining to art is quite visible, though liminal, like academics, arts, films, etc. However, when we try to examine about/of the spaces where the sexually and gender-wise marginalised people are not much ‘visible,’ one finds that sports is one such space, where there is a lacuna. Thus, to ruminate on, understand and discuss the reasons for this lacuna we present this Call for Papers to a conference which will deal with issues and concerns of marginal sections, gender-wise and sexuality, in the sports spaces.

    We are pleased to welcome submissions of essays, poetry, short fiction, activist statements, manifestos, notes from the field, and artwork that examine issues relating to a wide range of movement cultures among differently positioned womyn of color and, also, represent a significant contribution to the fields of feminist, queer, critical studies of race, transnationalism, and interdisciplinary Women’s and Gender Studies.

    Reflecting on Pronger’s legacy and ground-breaking writings on the body, gender, sexuality, desire, health, science and technology, Dr. Genevieve Rail will discuss recent research that aims to document how sexual minoritized individuals navigate fields of knowledge inflected by dominant discourses on biomedicine, risk, neoliberalism, homophobia and stereotypical rhetorics of “women’s health” and “lesbian health", in line with Pronger’s stout resistance to patriarchal, homophobic and territorializing projects.

    This Special Edition on LGBTQIA+ Topics in Health, Wellbeing, and Education seeks to bring together an assemblage of voices from social science, education, health, and physical activity to address LGBTQIA+ topics in their respective research areas. Health, wellbeing, and education are inclusive of a variety of fields such as sociology of health, education, gender studies, queer studies, sport and physical cultural studies, health education, physical education, as well as psychology.
