The International Review for the Sociology of Sport is a peer reviewed academic journal. Its main purpose is to disseminate research and scholarship on sport throughout the international academic community. The journal publishes research articles of varying lengths, from standard length research papers to shorter reports and commentary, as well as book and media reviews. 

Sport and Social Movements: From the Local to the Global by Jean Harvey, John Horne, Parissa Safai, Simon Darnell & Sebastien Courchesne-O’Neill (Bloomsbury) was published in 2014. Little has changed in the interplay between sport and globalization, and our reviewer Anne Tjønndal is keen to underline the need for continuous study of this field.

Leisure Studies is the journal of the Leisure Studies Association. The emphasis of the journal is on theoretically informed critical analyses within the social sciences and humanities of the wide range of topics that constitute leisure as a subject field – including the arts, tourism, cultural, informal and virtual activities, urban and rural recreation, sport, media and physical activities.

Lawrence A. Wenner and Andrew C. Billings have gathered leading scholars in the field of sport media studies for their edited volume Sport, Media and Mega-Events (Routledge), in which each contribution takes stock of a mega-event in terms of the level of mediatization. Henk Erik Meier is our knowledgeable reviewer, and he’s impressed.

The growth in the sociological study of sport, and the volume of research into specialist aspects of sport and society, has produced a burgeoning literature, of books, edited collections and specialist journals.

Britt-Marie Ringfjord has read what she deems an important contribution to contemporary sports media studies, Sport, Public Broadcasting and Cultural Citizenship: Signal Lost?, edited by Jay Scherer and David Rowe.

In his knowledgeable review of A Companion to Sport, edited by David L. Andrews and Ben Carrington, Alan Bairner, Professor of Sport and Social Theory at Loughborough University, finds that the volume offers something for everybody, if not everything for all.
