Call for Participants | International Football History Conference 2022 | City Football Academy, Manchester City Football Club, November 18–19, 2022.

The inaugural International Football History Conference was staged in 2017 and proved popular with leading academics, early career researchers, football historians and students. That was followed in 2018 & 2019 by further enjoyable conferences. Due to Covid we had to cancel our 2020 & 2021 conferences but now we're back. This year the conference promises to be significant, with world leading research presented, while also providing networking opportunities, as well as the potential for collaborations.

Dr Fiona Skillen (Glasgow Caledonian University), Dr Gary James (De Montfort University) and Helena Byrne are proposing an edited collection on the history of the growth and development of women’s football in Britain and Ireland between 1845 and 1990. We are therefore asking for abstracts from interested authors by January 2nd, 2022. We are interested in receiving abstracts on a variety of topics.

Studying the football industry from a business history perspective is not just relevant and important, but also allows participation in several of the debates open in business and economics fields, including the role played by consumers in the shaping and evolution of an industry; the evolution of an industry toward a structure with an ‘economics of superstars’ character and its consequences, and more.
