    Call for Papers | The Fourth Global Congress on Sport and Christianity | Baylor University, Waco TX, July 31 – August 2. Call ends January 31, 2025

    Since 2016, the triennial Global Congress on Sport and Christianity (GCSC) has provided an interdisciplinary and collaborative space for meaningful exploration of sport and Christianity among scholars and practitioners. The Program Committee for the fourth GCSC seeks to continue the conversation. We invite proposals featuring research, scholarship, and/or reflection on sport and Christianity, in all of its forms. Proposals are welcome from all backgrounds and communities, with the hope that our gathering can be a truly global and diverse meeting:

    Call for Conference Papers | “Sport and Religion: Antiquity, modernity and contemporaneity” | Porto, Portugal, January 11–12, 2024. Call ends November 15, 2023

    Since fanatical extremism is one of the dark sides of religion (as well as of sport), what we propose as a meeting place is an open debate and reflection, but one that is demanding in terms of thinking about the depth and complexity that will unite us over these two days in Porto. The sport and religion conference, focussed on the relationship between philosophy and sport, seeks to be a horizon for reflections and contributions from across the spectrum of academic knowledge, promoting the sharing of research, thought and practice.

    Submissions on sport and Christianity, in all of its forms, are invited from scholars across a range of related disciplines (i.e., theology, religious studies, kinesiology, psychology, history, philosophy, ancient and modern languages, literature, anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, economics, and business) and from practitioners in fields such as: sports ministry and mission, sports chaplaincy, counselling, social work, and pedagogy/coaching.

    The Second Global Congress on Sport and Christianity invites high quality work on sport and Christianity from scholars in fields such as sociology, cultural studies, anthropology, philosophy, theology, religious studies, kinesiology, psychology, history, ancient and modern languages, literature, economics, and business; or from practitioners in fields such as sport ministry, mission work, and social work.

    Deadline extension | Religion and Sport in Japan | A workshop and edited volume. Call ends October 10, 2018

    Contributions are being accepted for a workshop and edited volume tentatively titled “Beyond the Five Rings: Religion and Sport in Japan.” The purpose is to bring together experts from a variety of fields including, but not limited to, religious studies, history, sport studies/sports management, sociology, tourism, anthropology, economics, visual/material culture, and political science.

A life can be inspired in a moment. This inaugural conference will cover a wide range of topics related to sport and inspiration.
