Doktorsavhandlingen Barn- och ungdomsidrott till salu: Om begär, immateriellt arbete och kommersialisering av Jesper Karlsson (Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan GIH) undersöker företag som säljer idrottstjänster till barn och ungdomar i Sverige. ”Det som förvånade mig var att det idag finns företag som erbjuder idrott till allt från bebisar och yngre barn till ungdomar”, säger Jesper Karlsson.

Drawing on research undertaken by members of the Football Collective, the 2019 Annual Conference will look to scrutinise the business of football to find solutions that will benefit clubs, their players, their fans and their local communities. This year's conference will also explore both the commercial and human benefits football can bring to the general population.

Syftet med avhandlingen är att jämföra och förklara utvecklingen av svensk och finsk herrelitishockey sedan 1970-talets mitt ur organisatoriska, ekonomiska och juridiska perspektiv samt utifrån de idrottsliga ideal och influenser som nordamerikanska NHL och ryska KHL representerar. Backmans idrottsvetenskapliga bidrag är att belysa den nordiska elitishockeyns moderniserings- och amerikaniseringsprocess.
