Sstruck by the lack of research investigating the relationship between sport and romance, we are seeking scholars, acafans and interested individuals to build a community and forum of researchers with a shared interest in the intersection of sports, romance and popular culture to foster networks and collaborations.
Such collaborations may include book clubs, special issue proposals, conference panels and more.
Interests include, and are not limited to:
- Sport romance fiction, television, film and other media representations
- Sport fandom and fan cultures
- Sport fanfiction, both of real and fictional athletes
- Romantic narratives of athletes and their relationships
- Social media sport trends
- Issues of gender, masculinity, femininity and sport in popular culture
Given the success of Heated Rivalry, Marty Supreme and Challengers, and the pop cultural phenomena of Formula 1, Taylor Swift’s relationship with the NFL and the place sport has as a battleground for political disputes on gender and sexuality, greater academic investment in this area is long over due, and we hope to develop a collective responsive and active in remedying this absence.
Please email Atlanta Tsiaoukkas at839@cam.ac.uk to express interest.
