Från osäkerhet till delaktighet: Simundervisningens betydelse för nyanlända kvinnor och deras barn [From Uncertainty to Participation: The Role of Swimming Education for Newly Arrived Women and Their Children]
This study by Marie Öhman & Ali Jamshidpey examines newly arrived migrant women’s experiences of participating in swimming instruction and its potential significance for their own lives and their children’s opportunities to develop swimming skills. Based on a qualitative design, the study draws on interviews conducted before, during, and after a structured swimming program. The findings show that participation is shaped by cultural, religious, and social norms related to gender, body and language. The women emerge as active agents who navigate and challenge these constraints. (Published in Swedish 260908; English abstract available.

Alan McDougall’s Dreams and Songs to Sing: A People’s History of Liverpool FC from Shankly to Klopp (Cambridge University Press) is a unique people’s history of the triumphs and tragedies of one of the biggest teams in sport. From Shankly to Klopp, Alan McDougall takes his readers on a global tour of Liverpool FC’s history. Our reviewer, Arve Hjelseth, himself a lifelong Liverpool FC fan, read McDougall’s book as a biography as well as a history. And he likes what he’s been reading, an exciting mosaic of a truly global phenomenon. (Review in English, published 260909.)
Fighting for Her Right, Denying It to Others: The Contradictions of Renée Richards
Julie Kliegman’s Finding Renée Richards: The Groundbreaking Story of Tennis’s Trans Pioneer (HarperCollins) chronicles Richards’ extraordinary life, moving from her tumultuous upbringing in Queens, New York, to her career as a successful eye surgeon; her years as a star tennis player to her role as a transgender pioneer. In his review, Łukasz Muniowski shows how the complexities in Richards’ life as a transgender athlete in turn creates complexities for the author. Just the same, Kliegman’s effort offers a good read. Since its inception 23 years ago, idrottsforum.org has been proudly presenting every new issue of almost all scholarly journals within the field of sport studies, widely defined. However, after carefully considering the whole situation – with increasing number of journals and number of issues per journal – we have decided to let go of the original ambition; it has become too time-consuming. Henceforth we will publish alerts about new journal issues on our social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn and X), and also special alerts when particularly interesting articles in scholarly journals are published online, giving priority to open access publications. The Scholarly Journals page will list all journals within the extended sport studies field for your information, and we will endeavor to update it with any new titles being launched.
