This special issue will cover empirical research (both qualitative and quantitative), and systematic reviews. Examples of evidence-based practice pertaining to tourism are also encouraged. All submissions will be peer-reviewed. Studies focusing on the relationship between leisure and tourism, as well as tourism from the global perspective and in non-dominant contexts (such as for example social tourism, volunteer tourism) are particularly sought.

An African proverb states, It Takes a Village to Raise a Child. We invite those with empirical data, theoretical and analytical frameworks, and evidence-based practice to submit manuscripts that focus on leisure services/programs that play an important role in their village. We encourage studies that elucidate how collaboration with other areas and interdisciplinary approaches promote positive youth development.

The advent of the internet and the rapid changes in technology have been shaping leisure in different manners, from individual practices or business opportunities to policymaking. Spaces of leisure are now constructed and experienced in both physical and digital manners, allowing for leisure to become a favoured field of experimentation for innovative approaches.
