Confronting sexual misconduct in sport: Theory, survivor narratives and safeguarding

Sexual misconduct in any environment is a gross abuse of trust and this is no different within the sport world. Tanya Prewitt-White and Leslee Fisher’s edited collection Examining and Mitigating Sexual Misconduct in Sport (Routledge) outlines systemic and sociological explanations for why sport is a site of sexual misconduct. Our reviewer is Angela Stănescu, and she concludes that the volume is an essential read and constitutes a significant contribution to the increasing body of knowledge about sexual misconduct and its consequences for individuals as well as for sports.

An important contribution to the field, bringing together history, embodiment, and personal experiences in a rare way

The release of Social Justice Through Sport and Exercise Psychology, edited by Leslee Fisher (Routledge) comes at a moment when discussions around equity, inclusion, and the politics of participation in sport feel more urgent than ever. This book exposes the regressive tendencies within sport that harm, exclude, and silence, but also offers voices that illustrate how social justice is lived, embodied, and continually negotiated within sporting and academic spaces. In his review, Jacob Law highlights significant contributions to the field by demonstrating the depth and diversity of social justice work within SEP.
