The volume integrates perspectives from sport science, sociology, innovation studies, gender studies, sport management, sport psychology, sport history and sport philosophy to show how innovations develop, spread, and produce effects at multiple scales in sport at local, national and international levels. The editors want to open the conversation to scholars and practitioners across the international sport research community who feel they have something to contribute to it. The Handbook already draws on contributors from more than twenty institutions in Europe, North America, Africa and Oceania, and this is an invitation to widen that group further.

Sports Innovation Journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Sports Innovation Institute at IU Indianapolis. Our mission is to advance scholarship and practical knowledge that fosters innovation across all facets of sport—professional, collegiate, youth, and recreational. We are especially committed to encouraging collaboration between academic researchers and sport industry professionals, as well as promoting the application of evidence-based practices to real-world sport problems.

To further explore these ideas, we invite proposals for a forthcoming symposium titled “Sports Technology and Innovation.” The symposium will examine the different motivations that inspire inventors to develop game-changing technologies, their creative processes, and the often-surprising sources of their ideas. It will investigate the high-tech apparel, protective gear, adaptive prostheses, medical advances, officiating technologies, AI algorithms, and training equipment that infuse all modern sports.

Stillingen er knyttet til doktorgradsprogrammet i sosiologi og til faggruppen Ledelse og innovasjon, som har et aktivt forskningsmiljø innen idrettssosiologi gjennom forskningsgruppen Idrett og samfunn. Stipendiatstillingen kan ses i relasjon til det pågående forskningsarbeidet ved forskningsgruppen. Søkere inviteres til å skrive prosjektskisser som tematiserer bærekraftig utvikling i organisert idrett eller idrettsorganisasjoners rolle i bærekraftig samfunnsutvikling.

The Sports Innovation Journal (SIJ) brings together researchers and practitioners dedicated to publishing research that informs the development of innovative ideas to move the sports industry forward through collaboration, access, and relevancy.
