The Athens Journal of Sports is an Open Access quarterly double blind peer reviewed journal, which considers papers from all areas of sports and related sciences. As the official journal of the World Leisure Organisation, the purpose of the World Leisure Journal is to stimulate and communicate research, theory, and critical thought in all areas that address leisure, including play, recreation, the arts and culture, sport, festivals, events and celebrations, health and fitness, and travel and tourism. 

This journal publishes high-quality papers on the sociology of leisure that have a global interest, promote the development of this mature field within international sociology, and go beyond the traditional geographical areas of leisure studies. The sociology of leisure is about the social institution of leisure and its activities being pursued in free time or time away from disagreeable obligations.
