A lesson about public space through fútbol in the United States
Over the past half century, immigration from Latin America has transformed the public landscape in the US. In Fútbol in the Park: Immigrants, Soccer, and the Creation of Social Ties (University of Chicago Press), David Trouille takes us into the world of Latino soccer players who regularly play in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood where they are not always welcome. In her excellent review, Nicole Hernández is impressed by Trouille’s ethnographic study and recommends his book for students as well as a general audience.
