In today's sports landscape, the need for equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) is crucial. This conference focuses on examining EDI in sports, specifically emphasizing gender and sustainability. Our goal is to challenge and disrupt existing norms in the sports industry while exploring the intersection of EDI, gender dynamics, and sustainability. We aim to unravel complexities and pave the way for transformative change within the sports arena. 

Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal (WSPAJ) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted to advancing the understanding of women in sport and physical activity. The “Bodies in Motion” conference presents an opportunity for scholars and graduate students to collectively explore and rethink the relationship between bodies, materiality, space and time, thereby enriching the intellectual landscape within these fields and fostering a deeper understanding of our rapidly changing world. Keynote lecture to be delivered by: Kirsten Pai Buick, University of New Mexico.

The presence of queer people in various domains/spaces pertaining to art is quite visible, though liminal, like academics, arts, films, etc. However, when we try to examine about/of the spaces where the sexually and gender-wise marginalised people are not much ‘visible,’ one finds that sports is one such space, where there is a lacuna. Thus, to ruminate on, understand and discuss the reasons for this lacuna we present this Call for Papers to a conference which will deal with issues and concerns of marginal sections, gender-wise and sexuality, in the sports spaces.

This panel seeks to examine specifically how the representation of sporting bodies throughout the ages has contributed to the development and gendered understanding of particular sports cultures. The panel organisers therefore invite proposals exploring the representation of gender, its construction and/or contestation in a range of representational practices, including but not limited to: art, cinema, journalism, literature marketing, photography, print media, and social media. Proposals exploring any period of history, sport or geographic region are welcome.
