    We invite submissions that discuss the Soccer “World Cups” as a historical, political, and aesthetic unit of analysis. How do World Cups shape a certain sense of national identity; how it is used for political purposes (as a state machine as well as resistance); what kind of artistic production surrounds them and what are their intended and non-intended meanings (from songs to advertisements to posters and poems, etc.); how are class, race, and gender relevant (or not) in all these processes.

    The PSA’s 2022 Annual Lecture will take place online on Thursday 15 December at 7pm GMT, in partnership with SAGE Publishing. We are pleased that Laura McAllister, Professor of Public Policy and the Governance of Wales at Cardiff University’ has agreed to give this year’s lecture. An expert in sports governance, and a former Wales international football captain, Professor McAllister’s lecture coincides with the 2022 Men’s Football World Cup.

    The rationale for this Special Issue is to contribute to knowledge with a collection of papers on socio-cultural outcomes and impacts as effects of mega-events on host communities from a multidisciplinary perspective.
