An analytical view of the past to understand contemporary sports psychology
In his new book, In Depth Sport Psychology: Reclaiming the Lost Soul of the Athlete (Routledge), David Burston relates classic mythology and the Greek sports academies to the contemporary sporting climate to consider the roots of play and, by way of Jungian depth psychology, attempts to develop a new kind of sport psychology. Urban Johnson is our reviewer, and he finds Burston readable as well as demanding and challenging.
