Most football fans want their team to win and be successful. We all know about the fair-weather fan, who supports his team avidly – albeit only if they are winning. But there is a strange kind of fan, a foul-weather fan, who wants their own team to lose. In this article, Alfred Archer, an Associate Professor of philosophy at Tilburg University, tries to make sense of this kind of fandom and to argue that it is not such a strange kind of fandom after all. And our philosopher has found an incredible empirical case – Íbis Sport Club of Brazil.
