A Boule Bar experience, or a Friday night out, or – why not both?
After all new insights and knowledge you have gained during your stay at the ECSS congress, why not chill out and enjoy the company! On Thursday evening we visit Malmö’s Boule Bar were you can eat a delicious French meal from the menu, challenge your friends at boule or have a drink together. Boule has exploded into a real popular movement and has become a popular leisure activity for the whole family. Boule is a French ball game, and is played between two people or more. The players are supposed to throw a ball as close to a designated target ball as possible, and the opponents can use their ball to knock away the rival’s ball. A game, some friendships and a drink will hopefully make your Thursday evening in Malmö a great one!
Perhaps you didn’t get enough fun on Thursday evening, so lets join the party on a Friday night out. Just relax in a nice restaurang after a full day of sessions and presentations. Or else we know a great way to exercise – dancing! Discover Malmö’s nightlife in the company of some new and old friends. Malmö has a lot to offer including plenty of bars, pubs, nightclubs and a casino. At the square Lilla Torg you will find plenty of restaurants and bars, for examples the Scottish pub Drumbar, which offers a wide range of beers and whiskeys, or the Japanese restaurant Izakaya Koi, which turns into a nightclub at 11 pm. During the summertime the square is teemed with captivating atmosphere. Throughout the whole congress there’ll be special offers for the congress delegates of the ECSS Malmö 2015. The offers are available for you during all congress days by presenting the congress badge.

Join in on a guided tour in historical Malmö
Why not start your visit at the congress with a guided tour in historical Malmö? At 7 am on Thursday morning we walk together and discover Malmö’s past. Malmö’s history goes hundreds of years back in time and it was, for a long time, the largest industrial city in Sweden. Today Malmö is one of the fastest growing cities in the country, with a population of 315.000 people.

Malmöhus Castle
Malmö is an old city with both Swedish and Danish history. Malmöhus Castle is the oldest preserved Renaissance castle in Northern Europe. The castle was completed around 1500, and has been reconstructed a few times after that. When Denmark reined over Skåne, the Danish kings stayed at the castle during their visits in Malmö. In 1658 Skåne became Swedish and its fortifications were strengthened. However, in the 1700s the fortress lost its strategic importance, and it was used as a prison from 1828 to 1909. Since a restoration and reconstruction 1937, the new Malmö Museum was opened, using some parts of Malmöhus Castle. Today Malmö Museum contains exhibitions and museums, an aquarium, a technical and maritime museum and cafés, and some of the exhibitions are permanent and some open for a limited time only.

Karl X Gustav
In the historical center of the city you will find Malmö’s oldest church, Sankt Petri Church, which was inaugurated in the early 13th century ,and just two minutes away you’ll find The City Hall, at the Grand Square. At the center on the Square, opposite The City Hall, stands the statue of King Karl X Gustav who took the city from Danish command in 1658.

Malmö Stadion
An interesting, sports-related curiosity is that Sweden was the host to 1958 FIFA World Cup – or at least to some matches at the group stage. Malmö Stadion was built with the intent to use it during the championship, and the record attendance, 30.953, was set in the very first match played at the World Cup, between Argentina (1) and (3) West Germany. The venue was also one of the arenas that were used for the 1992 UEFA European Football Championship, hosted in Sweden. Today the arena is a used as a multi-purpose stadium.
Malmö has a lot more to offer than these examples and you are welcome to join in on a guided tour at the 25th of June! Pre-booking required. Limited capacity.
A guided tour at Malmo Live
This week we at ECSS Malmö were invited for a guided tour of Malmö Live where we, among other things, got to see the great Concert Hall and lecture room “Kuben” (the cube). The is building open to the public already but technicians are still working on the final details.

Kuben
Together with the Presidents of the ECSS Malmö 2015 Congress, Aage Radmann and Susanna Hedenborg, we were guided by the staff of Malmö Live and we went through the basics of the logistics during the Congress.
The first room we entered was “Kuben” that can hold up to 350 seated people or 500 standing. In this lecture room we will have some of the invited sessions, some oral presentation, as well as some mini oral presentation. The room has incredible acoustics, which can be controlled depending on what kind of performance that takes place. The idea in the future is that Malmö Live, in this room, will present concerts, shows or, as during the congress, various lectures.

The Concert Hall
The second room we entered was The Concert Hall, which is a very beautiful venue with seating for 1,600 people. We were amazed over the fantastic acoustics and the temple of vast dimension. In this great hall ECSS Malmö 2015 will have the opening and closing ceremonys, and with a stage area on 274 square-meter we look forward to show you spectacular performances.
We would like to thank Malmö Live for a enjoyable guided tour and we look forward to a delightful congress.
Run with Malmö Guerrilla Runners
Malmö Guerrilla Runners have been running on the streets of Malmö since December 2012. It all started when Måns Renntun and Dan Stenqvist ran 10 km along the Ribersborg beach as fast as they could. They thought that running should be fun and available for everyone without too much hassle. Together with Moa Björnsson they founded Malmö Guerilla Runners, a network in Malmö for those who love to run. Today the network engage almost 1,300 people and the members of the group are between 20 and 70 years old. A typical running session contains intervals, long distances or just a run for social reasons.

Malmö Guerrilla Runners
The Runners are connecting through a Facebook group and anyone is allowed to start a run. Together, sometimes two persons, sometimes 40, they runs varying distances and tempos together in Malmö. The group meets spontaneously and run when they want and where they want, without having to create a formal race. Once every month they try to bring as many members as possible together to run 10 km along Ribersborg beach. Everyone is always welcome to participate and the group spirit is very encouraging and inspiring. Their motto is to keep running simple, and being involved costs nothing and you run on your own terms.
Some of the members of Malmö Guerrilla Runners are very active while other members’ partake less frequently. When there is a formal competition close by, you can almost be sure that someone in the group is going to participate and they will try to help each other as much as possible.
Want to participate? Run together with Malmö Guerrilla Runners on the 25th of June at 18.00. Find the meeting point here
